| We have been selling lots of slimmer silhouettes. Our brides are calling and coming in looking for mermaids, and slim a-lines.
We’ve always sold a lot of lace and vintage looking gowns. When I set up at a bridal show I always put a gorgeous selection of lacy gowns that are very fashion forward but also have that vintage feel. Brides walking by our booth and their moms always comment on how our dresses are different from anything that they have seen elsewhere. Dropped waists are also very important. They are very slimming as is ruching and pleating through the bodice. Strapless gowns still outsell all the others 10 to 1 but we have lots of girls looking for straps. The manufacturers are making a few more but still are showing lots of strapless. Color has fallen off for us as in reds and blues, but we still sell mostly ivory and a large amount of spun gold and oyster. The gowns look so much richer in these colors. They are beautiful!!! We seldom sell white. Caroline Berend, Owner Bridal Boutique 972-219-8500 139 W. Main St. Lewisville, TX 75057 The latest trends are simple but elegant, silk fabrics, light and chic, tasteful, traditional and timeless. Designers such as La Sposa, Angelina Feccanda, offer a ruched bodice with fitted and flared skirt. These modified slim A-line skirts show figures so well. The styles blend fashion into traditional wedding gowns. The simple chic suits most of the brides who want to feel true to themselves and who want to be more comfortable on their wedding day. For the brides who want traditional weddings, or who spent a lifetime dreaming of being a princess and having a fairy-tale wedding, try a dramatic three dimensional beaded bodice with A-line or pick-up skirt. Designers such as Allure, Jasmine and Mori Lee offer such dresses with lots of embellishment. The beading and crystals make the dress stunning and dramatic. Sharon and Kevin Ponzo, Owners Bridal Design 817-749-0055 2931 E Hwy 114 Southlake, TX Beaded lace, tissue taffeta, delustered satin are a few of the beautiful new fabrics available for wedding gowns for spring and summer 2008. Wedding gowns create additional visual interest with mixtures of fabrics. Tulle insets, especially around the hem; twinkle tulle overlays will glitter in the candlelight. New, dramatic laces enhance the body of the gowns. So much glamour!! Yes. Mermaid gowns, now called fit and flair, are available, again! Make sure you are giving the manufacturer time (sixteen 16 weeks) to cut your gown to a more useable length if you are under 5'6". Otherwise you will loose a portion of your flaired hem and the indentation from "fit to flair" will be below your knees so you can't walk. Wedding gowns do fit smaller than the size they claim to be. Remember that they DO NOT stretch and they are FITTED. Most size 8's will need a 10 or 12. It is not You; it is simply the way of the fabric involved. Also a gown with an empire waist line is not loose. It, too, is fitted from bra line to hip bone! Don't tell the bridal consultant what size jeans you wear. The gowns fit your bust and waist not your fanny. Most experienced consultants have the ability to look at you and estimate the size gown you will need in their stores product lines. Trust them and won't it be fun if the gown has to be taken in. Wanda Heard, Owner Bridal Dreams 817-294-9408 6240 Hulen Bend Blvd Fort Worth, TX 76132 Bridal gown trends for 2008 it seems vintage is in with a dash of contemporary thrown in. Romance is everywhere in halter necklines, caplet sleeves, strapless gowns, lace, satin ribbons for straps, ruffles and lace jackets. Brides today are choosing dresses with soft flowing fabrics, satin sashes-to add that splash of color, lace and ruffled hems. The silhouettes we are seeing that are very popular is the a-line skirt with some slight modifications and more refined styles very Greek goddess inspired for the great soft flowing fabrics that have been very popular. Another hot trend we have been seeing is the brides having two dresses the long one for the ceremony and then changing into short style dress for the reception usually in lighter fabrics like chiffon, charmeuse and georgette. Joy Karsten 469-633-1980 Jessica McClintock Stonebriar Centre, Frisco, TX The highlight in bridal for the 2008 season is feminine detailing that will steal the show. All brides want the "WOW" when they walk down the aisle and bridal designers for 2008 have put the "WOW" back in the gowns. Ruffles are hotter than hot. No matter where they appear, on V-necklines or on dropped-waist hems, a ruffle is the hottest and daintiest style of the season. The three faces of ruffles are sexy, chic and antique. Delicate lace gowns get an edgy update with graphic laser-cut precision. Flower power is back and the flowers are a big embellishment. Couture blooms are just as essential as a beautiful bouquet. Big ball gowns with soft sweetheart necklines are still making a major statement for the Cinderella bride and soft, sheer flowing fabrics like chiffon, organza and point d'esprit lace are great for delicate tiered skirts. Hold on to your hats, quit dreaming in white and open your eyes to the top bridal accessory of the season: color. Move over blush pink. Blue is the new hue!
